April and May have been a really busy time for me.

New responsibilities at work, graduations, weddings, social events, warmer weather…my social calendar has been really jam packed.

I’ve also been busy falling in love with lots of great products these past two months.

From body products, to makeup, to a new show I binge watched, there was a lot I was able to discover and want to share.

Makeup:

Fit Me Matte Plus Poreless Foundation Makeup from Maybelline

I have been following Jackie Aina’s YouTube channel for a while now and she always has great recommendations for foundation, especially for women with oily skin and women of color. When I saw Jackie rave about this product I knew I had to try it. Not only is this liquid foundation a drugstore brand, which means it’s affordable and easy to attain, it also has a matte finish, which is a NECESSITY for people with oily skin, like me! This foundation has medium to full coverage and is also long-lasting. It has been my go-to foundation ever since I initially tried it in April. I’m currently using the shade 330 Toffee Caramel.

Fit Me Matte Plus Poreless Powder from Maybelline

I’m also a fan of their powder foundation, which I use to set my liquid foundation to help cut down on my oiliness and allow my makeup to last longer throughout the day.

Missy Lynn Palette

Missy Lynn Palette from BH Cosmetics

Missy Lynn is another YouTube Beauty Guru that I am a huge fan of and as soon as I found out she had released an eyeshadow/baked highlighter palette with BH Cosmetics, I knew I had to get my hands on it. I was a little too late to the game because it felt like the palette sold out instantly and I had to wait until they restocked to get it. But the wait was well worth it! The palette was affordable (there was a sale at the time that I purchased it) and is very lightweight. It has been the first palette I reach for because it’s small and light enough to just throw in my bag on my way out the door. It also includes a mirror. I love the colors because they can compliment a lot of different skin tones and the purple shades make my brown eyes pop. This has pretty much been the only eyeshadow palette I’ve been using the past two months.

Easyliner Retractable Lip Pencil in Plush Plum from Jordana Cosmetics

I might have mentioned this on my blog before but I have a major slight lipstick addiction. I wear lipstick pretty much everyday and I’ve gotten to the point where I can’t leave the house without some kind of color on my lips (except for those days where I’m very lazy). I also have to make a substantial effort not to walk to the cosmetics aisle when I go to the store because I’m always tempted to see what new lip colors there are. During one of my unsuccessful attempts to not buy lipstick (since I only went to the store for one item) I came a across this Jordana lip pencil in Plush Plum. I am a fan of Jordana lip pencils because they’re very affordable (less than $5), can be found at the drugstore, and are retractable which means there is no need to sharpen so they are easy to use on the go. They are also very pigmented and long-lasting. I have a lot of lipsticks that are very similar to this plum shade so I have been able to put this lip pencil to good use.

Hydro Lip Stick  in NY001-DARING from Nicka K New York

I received this lip product as a giveaway prize from Cocotique, a monthly subscription box service for women of color. I hadn’t heard of Nicka K products prior to receiving them in the giveaway but was very excited to try them. I really like this bold, red lip color in the shade Daring because it is very pigmented, has a slightly glossy finish, glides on smoothly, is moisturizing and long-lasting, and smells amazing! It has a slightly fruity, sweet scent.

Lash Princess Volume Mascara from Essence Cosmetics

I am IN LOVE with this mascara! I received this mascara in my April ipsy Glam Bag (learn more about ipsy in my previous blog post). First of all, the packaging of the products is super cute. The main reason I fell in love with this mascara is that it gives me the same results I get with my 3D fiber lash mascara without all of the extra steps. My eyelashes look thicker, longer, and more voluminous and I only apply one coat of mascara to each eye. I’ve also received lots of compliments after using this product. I’m definitely going to have to repurchase because I don’t think I can go back to my old mascaras after using this one. (I actually tried using a different mascara today and I felt like my eyelashes looked so naked).

Body:

Almond Cookie Body Cleansing Gel from Carol’s Daughter

I’m currently subscribed to curlBOX (learn more about curlBOX in my previous blog post) and have had a really positive experience with it. When I learned that they would be releasing a new subscription box called curlBOX Body I started to stalk occasionally check their Instagram page to make sure I didn’t miss out on purchasing the first box. It was well worth the anticipation because I was able to discover two amazing products, one of which was this body cleansing gel. I received a full sized, 12 oz. bottle, which I was very happy about. This gel smells wonderful with its hints of vanilla and marzipan, and leaves my skin so soft and moisturized after using it in the shower. It is sulfate free and includes aloe leaf juice, tonka bean, as well as other vitamins and antioxidants.

Almond Cookie Dry Oil Body Spray from Carol’s Daughter

I also received this product in my May curlBOX Body and it is works wonders! I spray this dry oil body spray on after I dry myself off once I get out the shower and rub it in similar to how I would rub in lotion. This spray smells just as heavenly as the cleaning gel and leaves my skin soft and moisturized throughout the day. I don’t have to worry about reapplying throughout the day and the smell is also longer lasting since it is an oil, but the oil doesn’t leave my skin feeling to greasy or oily. The oil includes shea butter, almond oil, soybean oil, and acai berry extract. It also provides a very healthy glow, which is great for spring and summer.

Music:

Trap Queen by Fetty Wap – I can’t get enough of this song! I know they play it all of the time but as soon as I hear “I’m like hey, what’s up, hello…” I want to turn up. I think it’s the beat in the song that has me hooked.

Truffle Butter by Nicki Minaj feat. Drake and Lil Wayne – Another song I can’t help but want to dance and party to as soon as I hear the beat. I’ve really liked this song since the first time I heard it but have been hearing it a lot more the past couple of weeks.

Yoga by Janelle Monae feat. Jidenna – First of all, Janelle Monae is absolutely gorgeous! I enjoyed watching the video for this song and seeing something a little different from her. Also, I really like Jidenna and liked hearing his follow up to Classic Man. This song is such a fun one to dance along to.

You Know You Like It by DJ Snake and AlunaGeorge – I love the original version of this song by AlunaGeorge but this is a great dance remix perfect for summer. I guess good dance tracks are my theme this spring.

Television:

I spent April and May binge watching episodes of A Different World once I found out that the series had been added to Netflix. I had watched a few episodes here and there before but had never watched the series in its entirety. I wasn’t as much of a fan of the first season, but was really able to get into it after that. I loved watching the love story unfold between Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert and really enjoyed how the show also touched on key issues that I felt I could still relate to. I would definitely suggest you check it out if you haven’t already.

Well, those are my favorites for this April and May. Any products you’ve also tried and loved or want to try out? What about some of your other favorites from April and May that I didn’t mention? I would love to read your thoughts in the comments below!

Thanks for reading!
