I recently had the opportunity to try out the volumizing Velvet Noir mascara from Marc Jacobs. It has been my go-to mascara for the past month. I wanted to share an easy and effortless glam makeup tutorial.
I received a complimentary sample of the Velvet Noir mascara from Marc Jacobs for testing purposes from Influenster. This mascara is great so I wanted to share my review as well as a makeup tutorial using this product.
Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara
“The Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara delivers big volume and length…with a cream and gel wax formula plus a curvy brush that separates and defines every lash.”
One of the first things I noticed about this product was the packaging. I love how sleek and classic it looks. Sometimes I feel like simple packaging can just be so sophisticated. So, I was instantly drawn to trying this out.
I love how pigmented this product is. It truly gives me the blackest of black lashes.
The bristles on the brush also allow for voluminous lashes. The shape of the bristles also clumps your lashes together so they appear more full. However, I would advise only applying one coat of the mascara so your lashes don’t appear too clumpy.
Although I’m not sure that the formula provides me with the best length, it definitely does a great job of defining my lashes.
I also appreciate that the formula doesn’t get too flaky after long wear and it’s pretty easy to remove.
Overall, I really liked this mascara!
In addition to my review of the mascara, I wanted to share a glam makeup tutorial.
Now, I will admit, I’m no makeup artist, guru, or expert. I’m just a makeup enthusiast. If you want to see a real makeup artist in action, check out this guest blog post from my sister.
However, I think the reviews that are most helpful to me are the ones where I’m actually able to see the product in action since I’m more of a visual learner.
Easy and Effortless Glam Makeup Tutorial
I started things off with a freshly cleansed and moisturized face. Next, I followed this up by applying a primer. I’ve been using the Shine Control Primer from Neutrogena since I have oily skin. Then, I applied my foundation.
To prevent under eye creasing, I set the concealer by applying a powder directly on top of the area where I applied the concealer. I suggest using a translucent setting powder or a setting powder with a yellow tint for those with darker skin tones. I used the “Set It & Don’t Fret It” Matte Finishing Powder from NYX in the shade Medium/Dark.
Since I do have oily-prone skin, it’s important for me to also set the rest of my face with a powder to help prevent shine. I lightly applied MAC’s Studio Fix powder foundation in the shade C7 all over my face, where I hadn’t already applied the NYX powder.
I like a more natural looking brow, so I usually use brow powders to darken any sparse hair spots in my brows. For this look, I used the Natural Stain Brow Powder from PEEK Beauty, which I received in my January ipsy glam bag.
Then, I applied the Cream Pigment Eyeshadow from Hikari in the shade Mink all over my lids. It’s a nice, sheer, shimmery gold pigment I received in my January ipsy glam bag. I also put some of that color in my inner eye tear ducts to brighten my eyes.
Using the same Missy Lynn palette, I applied the matte brown shade in the outer corner of my lids and blended into my crease.
If you are a frequent visitor of Sephora, you know that you receive free products for your birthday every year as part of their Beauty Insider program. The free products this year included items from Marc Jacobs. So, of course, I thought it was fitting to include those products I received in this makeup look.
To add an extra pop of glam, I applied gold eyeliner to my bottom lash lines. Next, I used the Mr. Write (Now) Eyeliner Pencil in the shade Jack B. Bronze from theBalm. I also received this product in my January ipsy glam bag.
Now for the main attraction, the Velvet Noir mascara from Marc Jacobs. I applied one coat of the mascara to both my upper and lower lashes. The picture above is a side-by-side comparison of my lashes with (right) and without (left) the mascara.
I’m a lipstick addict, so I can’t finish any look without lipstick. I received this gorgeous and creamy pink shade from the free Sephora birthday gift I mentioned earlier. This is the Le Marc Le Creme lipstick from Marc Jacobs in the shade Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
And here’s the finished look! I really love how it all came together and I think it’s a great everyday, daytime look that is also full of glam. You can also see a picture of all of the products used below.
I’m also wearing these gorgeous Alex Silver earrings in Slate from Kendra Scott that I received in my first ever Rocksbox. Rocksbox is a monthly subscription service for jewelry that I’ve been lucky enough to try for free. I also have a coupon code to share that allows you to receive one free month of the service (use the code kianaturallyxoxo)!
Have you tried the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir mascara? What were your thoughts? Could you see yourself rocking this makeup look? Are you interested in trying Rocksbox? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below, so be sure to leave a comment!
